I don’t think Nepal will ever be next Syria or Yemen, we did face nearly 10 years civil war that killed 17,000 people which was horrible but nothing compared to Syria and I don’t think vast majority of Nepalis and our leaders want to return back to violence and killings. While Nepal is a multi ethnic Country, various communities here have been living side by side for centuries e plus unlike in Syria or Yemen we have democracy here and a good democratic Constitution where grievances from various ethnic and religious groups can be heard. Having said this, Is it impossible?? I frankly don’t know but there are Nepali political analysts saying that the west esp US and EU may try to make Nepal into another Syria and have their military presence in Nepal to counter both India and China. This is why INGOs that are affiliated to them are engaged in massive Christian conversion campaigns, then they are trying to make cow slaughter legal in Nepal (Cow is not only sacred to Hindus but is also Nepal’s national animal) and also try to restrict Hinduism by using secularism and this may give rise to religious conflict here and the west can come here to “protect Christian minorities”. We also had EU, these analysts say push identity politics in Nepal and try to cause conflict among various ethnic groups but particular three groups, khas arya, janajatis and madhesis, the recent EU report may be one part of that. So these are just in the realm of conspiracy theory but Nepal should be careful because in geopolitics anything can be fair and it is very clear many in the west on Government level don’t like the rise of the East and Nepal’s location is right in the middle of that.
